The Tomorrow Children

Starting on November 1st of this year, you will no longer be able to buy nor play the PlayStation 4 exclusive The Tomorrow Children. This announcement comes straight from Sony and can be found on the game's page on the PlayStation website.

The Tomorrow Children came out on September 6, 2016. This means that the game will have been out for barely more than a year before it is officially taken down. A large part of Sony's decision to discontinue the game may have come from the negative critical response the game received when it came out last year. The Tomorrow Children currently holds a measly score of 54 on OpenCritic.

I never played The Tomorrow Children, so I can't speak to the quality of the gameplay, but I am definitely digging the game's aesthetic from screenshots.

The game will be pulled from the PlayStation Store on September 28th. The online services for the game will end on November 1st, and since the game is a sort-of-MMO experience, that will effectively kill the game.

Also being pulled on September 28th are the microtransactions available for the free-to-play sandbox game. Sony will be removing the Founders Pack and Freeman Dollars from sale on the 28th.

Dylan Cuthbert, the founder of Q-Games and the game director for The Tomorrow Children, was asked on Twitter whether there was any chance the developers could update the game to make it playable offline. Here was his response:

Not only does this Tweet confirm that the game is effectively dead starting on November 1st at 1:00 a.m. PDT, but it also confirms that it was Sony who ultimately forced the developer's hand and pulled the plug on the game. This happens just as it was recently announced that Dylan Cuthbert's famous unreleased project Star Fox 2 will be released, albeit in limited form in the SNES Classic Mini.

Meanwhile, a note on the Japanese PlayStation website states the following:

There is only a short amount of time remaining, however The Tomorrow Children development and operations team hope that you can all continue to enjoy our title until the end of service. And we would like to extend our thanks and best wishes to you all who continue to enjoy and play our game.
Are you sad to see The Tomorrow Children leave? Will you try and get any last gameplay out of the game before November? Let us know in the comment section below!
