The Epic Games store has announced a string of exclusives coming to their platform at GDC this year, including massive titles like Obsidian's The Outer Worlds and a collection of games from developer Quantic Dream. One more can now be added to the list as a timed exclusive; developer Frogwares The Sinking City.

Announced during the Epic Games Keynote, The Sinking City was announced as being released on the Epic Games Store 'for a limited time' before a Steam Release.

Frogwares posted a short Q&A on the games Steam page to detail further information on the game's future.

According to Frogwares, The Sinking City is planned to be an Epic Store exclusive for at least 1 year after the game's release on PC. All physical and digital copies of the game on PC will require the player to download and install the free Epic Games store client in order to access the game. The developers also admitted that they "will consider releasing the game on other platforms" a year from now, leaving the door open for The Sinking City to not be released on other PC platforms.

The console versions of the game for the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One will still be released at the same time as the PC version, in both physical and digital copies. Though unclear by Frogwares, it is unlikely that players will need to register for an Epic Games store client on the console versions of the game.

Frogwares has stated that the details of their exclusivity deal will remain confidential but has publicly acknowledged that the Epic Games store offers a better compensation plan for developers, especially those who have used Epic's own Unreal Engine for their products.

"After careful consideration, it was deemed the best decision for the publisher and the studio to partner with Epic Games," stated the blog post. "This will allow to continue supporting The Sinking City and provide the best experience for you now and in the future."

The Sinking City was first announced back in 2016, with an extensive cinematic trailer at the PC Gaming Show in last years E3.  Based on the works of H.P Lovecraft, The Sinking City is designed to be an investigative-style game where players will need to find clues and unravel the mysteries of the city of Oakmont, Massachusetts.

The Sinking City is slated for release in June.
