Final Fantasy XV director Hajime Tabata and his studio JP Games have announced a Paralympics RPG entitled The Pegasus Dream Tour. The game is the first official video game of the International Paralympic Committee.

The Pegasus Dream Tour is intended to promote awareness of Paralympic sports. It'll launch worldwide in 2020 alongside the next Paralympic Games, which are being held in Tokyo. There are just under 500 days to go until the event begins in August that year. IPC president Andrew Parsons is hoping that the game will represent an innovative way to engage with younger audiences worldwide and drum up interest in the Paralympics for that demographic.

In The Pegasus Dream Tour, players will participate in a virtual version of the Paralympic Games. The game will take place in an entirely fictional metropolis called Pegasus City. Players will "awaken their special abilities", known as Xtra Power in the game, in an alternate Paralympics world "dynamically rendered in ways that only video games can achieve". We're not yet sure exactly what gameplay will entail, but we know it'll be an RPG given JP Games' mission statement to "[take] RPG to the next level".

For his part, Hajime Tabata seems pretty stoked. He says JP Games plans to "represent fully the wonders that are unique to Paralympic sports" in The Pegasus Dream Tour. He's confident that his studio's skill in creating RPGs will create a product with lasting value in the future, as well as a game that will raise awareness of the Paralympics and represent the event well. Tabata and JP Games are planning to make The Pegasus Dream Tour available for "various platforms, including smartphones". We're not sure exactly what this means yet in terms of specifics. We'll bring you more on this game as we get it.
