Indie mystery game The Outer Wilds has been delayed until 2019. The game's developers had hoped to get the game out before the close of the year but they weren't able to make it happen.

The Outer Wilds is an upcoming open world game with a mystery theme from Mobius Digital and Annapurna Interactive. The developers had hoped to be able to release it before 2018 was over, but it seems that they needed a bit more time for polish. A blog post on the developer's official website states that the release date has been pushed back to an indeterminate time in 2019.

The developers are hoping to use the time to enhance the stability of The Outer Worlds and polish the game up a bit before they publicly release it. The dev team have already completed a full playthrough of the game on an internal build, but it seems that they must have realized that they would need more time to get it into a state that they are satisfied with bringing to market.

In The Outer Wilds, players take on the role of the newest member of Outer Wilds Ventures. This is a space program that has a particular focus on exploration and you've been handed a doozy for your first mission: a solar system that's trapped in some kind of time loop. You'll be able to journey between the planets as they literally crumble before your eyes before being restored to their previous state. There's a mystery to uncover here and it's up to you to solve it!

The next update from the developers is expected to be on February 1, 2019. I imagine that it's unlikely we'll be hearing anything regarding a release date until then. The Outer Wilds will release sometime in 2019. In the meantime, you can pop over to the game's Steam store page and add it to your wish list.
