Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3: The Black Order has been announced at The Game Awards 2018. The superhero action brawler is set to come out in 2019, and in a surprising move, it will be a Nintendo Switch exclusive. In a surprise move, the game is being developed by Team Ninja, the team behind Nioh and the upcoming Dead or Alive 6. Nintendo is publishing it.

The game features an all-star cast of Marvel characters, with eponymous Black Order playing a major role in this game. The Black Order is a group of supervillains who have posed a threat to The Avengers on multiple occasions in Marvel comics. Unfortunately, details are sparse on the story of Ultimate Alliance 3, but the trailer shows a promising amount of gameplay.

The trailer shows off a wide variety of faces from the Marvel universe. Among the villains are characters like Kingpin, Sandman, and the Sentinels. On the other hand, characters from the Avengers, the Guardians of the Galaxy, and the X-Men make their appearances throughout the video.

The gameplay features co-op for up to four players as you brawl your way through the Marvel universe. Additionally, the core mechanics of the combat are largely the same as they were in the previous Ultimate Alliance games. Players can play together online, link up locally, or use single Joy-Cons to play with friends, cashing in on the Switch’s party-friendly features.

“As longtime fans of the franchise, we could not be prouder and more excited to bring back Ultimate Alliance with its biggest game yet,” said Mike Jones, vice president and executive producer of Marvel Games. “Marvel Ultimate Alliance is all about teaming up with your friends and creating your own ‘dream team’ of Super Heroes to go on adventures across the Marvel Universe, and Nintendo Switch is perfect for delivering on that promise of cooperative gameplay and shared experiences.”

This will be the first Ultimate Alliance game in 10 years, with the last one coming out in September 2009.
