Crash Bandicoot himself came to The Game Awards to announce the Crash Team Racing remake. Titled Crash Team Racing Nitro-Fueled, this game will bring the PlayStation 1 kart-racing classic to the modern day, with graphics rebuilt from the ground up. Beenox, a subsidiary of Activision, is developing the game. It will come to PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch on June 21, 2019.

Every track and character from the original game will be coming to the remake. Additionally, Beenox is adding new features, like kart customization and expanded co-op opportunities. To help bring the classic into the modern era, the game comes with online functionality.

Crash Team Racing Nitro-Fueled is the most recent PlayStation classic game to be remade with today's standards in mind. Everything started with the Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy, which remastered the first three Crash games in 2017. Spyro Reignited Trilogy soon followed suit with the first three Spyro games.

The new and improved racing game will launch next year with a $40 price tag. If you want more, the Nitrous Oxide Edition will run for $60, which unlocks N. Oxide as a playable character at the start of the game. The special edition unlocks N. Oxide, the final boss, at the start of the game. Additionally, it will unlock extra kart skins for other characters, like Crash, Coco, and Neo Cortex.

“Not only are we revamping Crash Team Racing from the kart up in Crash Team Racing Nitro-Fueled, we are giving fans a whole lot more including all the characters and tracks they love, with tons of added animations and personality that the original platform just couldn’t convey," said Thomas Wilson, co-studio head of Beenox, in a press release. "We can’t wait to see fans go head-to-head as they test their Crash kart racing mettle in online multiplayer.”

For those who haven't played Crash Team Racing previously, it has some Mario Kart influences. Players drift along tight tracks, and randomized weapons are scattered along each map. Race to first place using your driving skills and strategic weapon deployment. The roster of of racers features characters from across all the Crash Bandicoot games, both protagonists and antagonists.
