The Game Awards for 2016 have just ended and all of the winners have been announced. Over the course of the night, there were eighteen different categories. Whether these nominees would earn themselves a Game Award was decided upon by a panel of 29 different global media and influencer outlets, including GameSpot, The LA Times, and Rooster Teeth. There were also six different categories that were voted on by fans, such as Best Esport team, Trending Gamer, and the Most Anticipated Game of 2017.

Game of the Year & Best Multiplayer & Best Esports game [Fan Selected] - Overwatch Best Studio/Game Direction - Blizzard for Overwatch

Blizzard's first new IP in years, this first person shooter has you playing 6v6 multiplayer matches with several different heroes as you capture locations and move carts while taking advantage of each of the character's unique abilities. Released on May 24th, 2016 for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.

Best Narrative - Uncharted 4: A Thief's End Best Performance - Nolan North, Uncharted 4: A Thief's End

After the massively successful and well-regarded Uncharted trilogy, Developer Naughty dog returns to complete the story of treasure hunter Nathan Drake in Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End. With bigger set pieces, new characters, and astounding visuals, Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End concludes the PlayStation exclusive franchise on a huge note.  Released May 10, 2016 on the PS4

Best Art Direction & Best Independent Game - Inside

A new game from Playdead, the creators of Limbo, has you taking control of a boy who finds himself inexplicably drawn into the center of a strange, dark project. Work your way through this puzzle platformer to uncover the truth of what is happening in the world. Inside was released for PC, Xbox One, and PlayStation 4 on the 7th of July.

Games For Impact Award - That Dragon, Cancer

A game based on the sad real life story of developers Ryan and Amy Green and the Numinous Games team based on the Greens' experience raising their son who was diagnosed with terminal cancer when he was one. It is a low poly point and click game allowing players to experience the emotional highs and lows of what the Greens' had to go through. That Dragon, Cancer was released on Windows, OSX, and Ouya in January and for iOS in October.

Best Mobile/Handheld Game & Best Family Game - Pokemon GO

Sparked by a collaboration between developers Niantic and The Pokemon Company, Pokemon GO is the first entry of the Pokemon franchise available on mobile devices. Immediately after its release, Pokemon GO became not only the most downloaded game on iOS/android but also a world wide phenomenon unlike ever before. Released July 2016.

Best VR Game - REZ Infinite

A re-release of the popular music game/shooter hybrid, only with a full new area and PlayStation VR support, Rez Infinite gives you the best way to play this beloved classic. Released October 13th, 2016 on the PlayStation 4.

Best Action Game & Best Music/Sound Design - DOOM

After ten years, iD Software returns to their flagship franchise with a brand new DOOM, a reboot that captures everything that made the original great: big guns, big levels, and big bodycounts as our mute hero decimates the legions of Hell. Released on May 13th for PC, PS4, and Xbox One

Best Action/Adventure Game - Dishonored 2

Step back into the mystical world of Dishonored set years after you saved Emily and cleared you name. You can play as Corvo again or as the newly trained Emily as your aunt arrived to steal your throne out from under you. Released on the 11th of November for Playstation 4, Xbox One, and Steam.

Best Role Playing Game - Witcher 3: The Wild Hunt - Blood and Wine

Witcher 3 Blood and Wine places series protagonist Geralt in a new land hunting down a mysterious vampire threat.  With this final expansion, developer CD Projekt Red closes the book on the enormously praised Witcher 3 saga. Released May, 31 2016 PS4/XboxOne/PC

Best Fighting Game - Street Fighter V

The undisputed king of fighting games returns with developer Capcom’s Street Fighter V.  With console exclusivity on the PS4, Street Fighter V lets players once again take control of their favorite world fighters as well as some new faces and compete online or locally. Released Feb 16, 2016 PS4/PC

Best Strategy Game - Civilization 6

Develop your empire and lead your armies to victory in this tun based 4X video game. Civilization 6 brings together all of the best aspects of 4X games including large empires, the ability to interact with other civilizations, as well as a way for new players to get involved in the action. Civilization 6 was released on the 20th of October for PC.

Best Sports/Racing Game - Forza Horizon 3

Time to head to Australia for the latest in open world racing with Forza Horizon 3. With the ability to take part in plenty of events, racing against your friends offline or online, or wanting to just go for a drive this game wont hold you back. Forza Horizon 3 released for Xbox One and Windows 10 in September.
