the division 2 open beta

Following the closed beta that ran earlier this month, Ubisoft has announced that The Division 2 will be getting a multi-platform open beta. The upcoming beta will run from the 1st of March to the 4th and will be available on PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One. The beta will run two weeks ahead of the game's March 15th worldwide launch.

Details of the upcoming beta have yet to be revealed (expect more info soon), but it will likely expand upon the previous beta.

According to a Ubisoft press release, The Division 2 will, Build upon more than two years of listening to and learning from The Division community, Tom Clancy’s The Division 2 will offer a substantial campaign that organically flows into a robust endgame, to create a cohesive and meaningful experience for all types of players.”

Set seven months after the deadly virus released in New York City, The Division 2 will "bring players into a fractured and collapsing Washington D.C."

Check out the story trailer revealed in January below.

The closed beta experienced some technical hiccups, including Ubisoft recommending players restart the game every few hours to ensure stable performance. Hopefully, the open beta will present a smoother experience for players, but the increased server load that comes with an open beta doesn't give me high hopes.

In the meantime, why not check out our review of 2016's The Division and our thoughts on The Division 2 closed beta.

Quick Take

I played a couple of hours of the closed beta that ran earlier this month. I enjoyed my time with the first game so I'm pretty excited to check out what its sequel has to offer. The beta impressed me enough to maintain my excitement, although I didn't see anything that blew me away in my brief time with the beta. The beta also came with some unfortunate tech issues, but I didn't experience anything too nasty myself.

What do you think? Will you be participating in the open beta? Did you take part in the closed beta earlier this month? Let us know in the comments!
