Today, inXile Entertainment has released a new update 'Second Sight' for The Bard's Tale IV: Barrow's Deep, it's first in over a month. It brings with it a bunch of "requested features", which include "Legacy Mode" features and the option to save anywhere at any time.
For those curious, Legacy Mode allows players to play the game how they want--either like a modern first-person title or a classic 80's release. This includes being able to move on a grid, being able to save anywhere, auto-resurrection, perma-death, auto-mapping, re-spec'ing, and Legendary Difficulty, which increases enemy difficulty by 100% over the normal mode. among other included options. Paul Marzagalli from inXile Entertainment also mentions that a revamped inventory system and controller support are still on their way, along with "continued improvements and optimization" based on consumer feedback. Mac and Linux version are still being worked on as well, and Marzagalli mentions that there will be more news to share on that front in the near future.
Other changes in this update include improvements to performance and stability and moves such as Lumbering Strike will reach enemies 3 spaces away, as advertised in the in-game tooltip.
Even though there are dozens of changes and fixes in this latest patch, there are still known issues. If a player attempts to save and load during the end-game credits and fight the final boss again, or instance, the game may crash. To avoid this, players are advised to avoid saving during the credits and load their last save file from the main menu instead.
The Bard's Tale IV: Barrow's Deep is also currently on sale for 20% off, if you want to give this game a second look.
