At 2010 San Diego's Comic-Con we had Capcom and Bandai Namco announce a pair of games. The first was Street Fighter X Tekken, a Street Fighter/Tekken cross over that would play like a Street Fighter game. Street Fighter X Tekken came out in 2012 to generally positive reviews. The other game announced was Tekken X Street Fighter, somewhat similar in concept in that it'd be the two legendary fighting game characters brawling it out, but this one playing more like Tekken. Now it seems Tekken X Street Fighter is no longer in the works.

Katsuhiro Harada, game director for the Tekken series, has confirmed in a recent interview with GameSpot that Tekken X Street Fighter is no longer in active development. The reason given is that there's currently no good release window for the game.

"When we develop fighting games, we try to keep the core community in mind as well as the wider audience that wants to play these games. But currently the situation is with fighting games, you have Street Fighter V that just released--a lot of people are playing that fervently--and there's a large crowd out there waiting for Tekken 7. We don't want to split these communities, so a good window in which to release Tekken x Street Fighter is something that's become difficult recently. So it's on hold for the moment."

The good news is that it doesn't seem like Tekken X Street Fighter is canceled, just on hold. We may still get something out of it one day, and if you're wondering what could have been then there is also the fact that Tekken 7 will include Street Fighter's Akuma as a playable guest star character. Another Namco/Capcom crossover game (and also Sega), Project X Zone 2, came out earlier this year.

What are your thoughts on this one? Surprised to hear that Namco is throwing in the towel? Or were you not expecting the game since its been so long since we've heard from it? Let us know in the comments!
