Techland, the Poland-based gaming developer perhaps best known for the open world survival game Dying Light, has announced the launch of a digital distribution platform named Gemly as reported by PC Gamer.

Gemly is a digital distribution platform for Techland's own games as well as those belonging to select partnered third parties. This is a relatively straightforward online store for games where you buy games that are activated on other services such as Steam and GOG; at the moment, there isn't any separate Gemly client or anything of the sort.

"We have created Gemly as part of our wish to be closer to our fans and unite the whole Techland community in one place. At the same time, we want to keep our fans engaged and entertained—with Dying Light’s Content Drop #0 we’re paving the way for incredible experiences, offering new challenges and mysteries for our fans." -Techland CEO Paweł Marchewka
The F.A.Q. page for Gemly has a number of important details about the new service. They accept purchases worldwide (their "About Us" page boasts that they bring games to 144 countries) in U.S. Dollars, Pounds Stirling, Euros, and Polish Zloty. The currency in question is selected depending on where you are accessing the site from and it cannot be changed. Critically, the F.A.Q. also states that you will not be able to get a refund after you redeem a key for a game you have purchased.

The first new piece of exclusive DLC content is the Harran Military Rifle, available in Steam and GOG versions completely for free via the site. A tweet from the game's official account states that console players will be getting access to the goodies from Dying Light Content Drop #0 in a couple of months:

At the moment, Gemly is brand new but useful features such as the ability to gift games are under development for the future. Gemly is also slated to be a community hub of sorts for Techland's games. If you'd like to have a look around at what Techland has to offer on their new platform, you can check out the site for yourself at gemly.com.

What do you think of Techland entering into the digital distribution market with Gemly? Do you agree with them giving out exclusive content for their games via their own platform? How do you think they will fare in the online gaming market with all of the competition currently out there? Let us know in the comments below!
