Team Razer

Razer, the company you will know best for making those mice with a ton of buttons and backlighted keyboards you see in every game tournament, announced today that they will showcase "Team Razer: Great Games", a documentary about eSports, at DreamHack Winter in Jönköping, Sweden.  [youtube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=veZdruVi0IA]

Great Games will be the first of a trilogy of documentaries that will follow the members of Team Razer. The documentary will specifically focus on the Starcraft 2, DotA 2 and League of Legends scene. Razer said that the focus of this documentary is to give a direct insight on the experiences of the e-athletes. A way, they say, to "introduce audiences to the finer points of professional gaming, from the games themselves as a sport of the future, to the mega stars, mega audiences and mega revenues."

The three episodes will be half an hour long each and they're directed by Travis “Samox” Beauchamp, already director of another gaming documentary "The Smash Brothers".

eSports is a phenomenon that so many people are still unaware of, and I want to change that, - says Beauchamp. - Athletes from different cultures pursue their passion with these games, with millions of people watching, each player driven by a desire to be the best of the best. Illuminating the lives of these StarCraft, Dota 2and League of Legends champions will help eSports novices to understand that ambitious gaming is not only a hobby, but a serious sport.
That's an ambitious goal, but a good one.

Razer has always been damn serious in wanting to push the eSports scene as a real sport. Just read it from the words of Min-Liang Tan, Razer co-founder and CEO.

With ‘Great Games’ we wanted to showcase the rise of eSports in a way that inveterate and new gamers alike may enjoy, and it provides an exciting glimpse into the lives of some of the world’s most talented eSports professionals that call Team Razer their home.
The first episode of the documentary, will show the history of eSports, starting from Starcraft: Brood War to modern days. The following ones will focus more on MOBAs and will feature insights from teams of the calibre of Team Liquid and Evil geniuses.

Razer will show “Team Razer: Great Games” for the first time during Dreamhack Winter the 29th of November. All the three episodes will be released in sequence on Youtube the first public screening.
