In the last few weeks all eyes have been on Paris following a string of horrific attacks on multiple public venues in France, which left 129 people dead and many more severely injured. With the world on edge, Team EnVyUs, a professional Counter-Strike: Global Offensive team based in France, announced they would not be attending the Intel ExtremeMasters tournament in San Jose, California this weekend. EnVyUs released a statement November 18th on Twitter, saying that they would not be attending IEM to protect the safety of their players. They went into more detail, saying that in the process of planning travel for the tournament, they ran into many blocks due to restrictions on travel currently in place in France.

This year EnVyUs has been one of the front runners in the CS:GO scene, beating out Na'Vi in the seventh major at the beginning of November. EnVyUs also won the first stop for IEM at Gamescom earlier this year against Team SoloMid, and are the defending IEM champions. They were expected to be one of the teams to beat at the ExtremeMasters tournament this year. ESL released a statement addressing EnVyUs' decision to pull out, saying they respect their decision and the safety of their players. The third place winner from the iBUYPOWER Cup, Counter Logic Gaming, accepted the invitation to fill the new opening, and the new schedule has been released.

Many are still on edge following the Paris attacks, and more threats have surfaced, including a propaganda video targeting Times Square in New York. In France, police recently conducted a raid where the supposed mastermind behind the Paris attacks was killed. Prior to these attacks, there were several eSports events held in Paris, including the Electronic Sports World Cup (as well as Playstation's Paris Games Week) and the League of Legends Worlds finale. This may affect other international tournaments coming up as well, including the League of Legends All-Star event, which will feature some players located in France.
