It seems that the rumors about Okami HD coming to current gen consoles were true: the game will be making its way to the Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC in Japan as reported by Gematsu.

For those not in the know, Okami is a game that combines several elements of Japanese mythology set in classical Japan. Players take on the role of the Shinto sun goddess Amaterasu, depicted in the game as a white wolf in a cel-shaded art style based on Asian ink wash painting. The game originally came out in 2006 before being re-released as Okami HD for the PlayStation 3 in 2012.

The announcement was made in the latest edition of Weekly Famitsu, a long-running Japanese gaming magazine. The Japanese release dates are as follows: the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One versions will release on December 21, 2017, and the PC version will release on December 13, 2017. Here are the prices for the Japanese editions (along with currency conversions to dollars):

  • PlayStation 4 physical version - ¥2,990 ($27.20)
  • PlayStation 4 digital version & PC Digital Version - ¥2,769 ($25.19)
  • PlayStation 4 limited edition - ¥4,990 ($45.40)
  • Xbox One digital version - ¥2,780 ($25.29)
Okami was developed by Clover Studio, a division of CAPCOM that originally began as the team that put together the first Viewtiful Joe game. The studio was tasked with creating new IP for their parent company and had released four Viewtiful Joe games, God Hand, and Okami before being rendered defunct in 2007. Many of the studio's personnel were taken on by Platinum Games, developers of Bayonetta and NieR: Automata.

For the moment, we only know that the game is coming out in Japan. Hopefully, we'll find out soon whether it will make its way to other regions and what the prices will be.

What did you think of Okami? Will you be picking up a copy of Okami HD if it's made available in your region? What's your favorite thing about the game? Let us know in the comments below!
