The name Liquid Media Group is not a household one, but the Vancouver based company touts an "integrated global studio" that produces content for all platforms, from film to VR. Today though, they are making waves for expanding their library of options. Today it was announced that Liquid Media Group has acquired 65 retro gaming titles for the cost of approximately $1 million.

A statement made by Charlez Brezer, the director of Liquid Media Group, discusses the power of retro gaming and the massive successes of the retro console lines from Nintendo and Sony."This title acquisition along with our studios' proven 25+ year track record kicks off Liquid's growth strategy." said Brezer.

It is possible that this purchase is fueling a chance for the company to grow. According to Gameindustrybiz, Liquid Media's stock has been in decline by nearly 83 percent over the past five years. The deal itself will be a windfall for the company on the stock market, which is being treated as an all-stock transaction deal valued at approximately $1 million to the previous owners of the games, Throwback Entertainment.

The deal is an all-stock transaction, involving the issuing of 670,000 shares to Throwback, priced at $1.49 each, a 60% premium on Liquid Media Group stock closing price on September 24.

Throwback Entertainment, known for their own collection of retro games including Gladiator: Shadows of Rome and Iggys Wreckin Balls has praised Liquid Media Group for the transaction. "Liquid Media Group is an emerging leader in forward-thinking content creation. We are extremely confident that working closely together will bring success for these titles by treating gamers to fantastic experiences in the future," stated Thomas Maduri, CEO at Throwback Entertainment.

"I grew up playing these games, I can't even imagine how many quarters I pumped into Bubble Bobble," stated Joshua Jackson, Chairman of Liquid Media Group. "So many people, myself included, are returning to the classics. The nostalgia brought on by this resurgence in retro games connects us to our childhoods - and creates incredible demand."

Some of the games mentioned in the release include NES and arcade classics such as Bubble Bobble, NBA Jam, NFL Quarterback Club, Kwirk, and College Slam. It is currently unknown what the plans are for these games in the companies hands, but retro-styled re-releases or updates are likely strategies in the future. Given the mention of the NES Classic, an all-in-one hardware release may also be in the cards.
