Swery and his White Owls studio are now teasing The Missing: J.J. Macfield and the Island of Mysteries, which is set for release later this year. The first White Owls game developed entirely in-house, it is an action adventure game coming to all major consoles and PCs. Notably, The Missing is set to be published by Arc System Works, whose previous publishing work largely consists of fighting games. The original announcement, linked below, promised a healthy dose of mystery and intrigue, and while we don't know what form that will take, we will get a chance to play The Missing later this year.

Originally just known as The Missing, it was first revealed back in February, though without any further details. The current teaser website just lists platforms and has only three screenshots, but the screenshots do suggest a Castlevania-like sidescrolling action game. There also appear to be donuts in one of the screenshots, and the metadata for the website lists "Maine" and "Americana" as tags. Bizarre stories in a rural setting are not out of the ordinary for Swery, who most famously developed Deadly Premonition back in 2010. Judging by the screenshots, The Missing seems to be a much smaller project than Deadly Premonition, however.
You may also recall that Swery was in the news recently for his The Good Life project, which found new life on Kickstarter. Though The Good Life will be using staff members from White Owls, primary development is occurring at G-rounding, Inc. Now, with the support of Arc System Works, who Swery says "[they've] given him an opportunity to create something entirely new...this title will blow your mind." If the mind-bending storytelling of Swery's earlier games is any indication, we're in for another strange treat from the auteur. We'll know more about The Missing: J.J. Macfield and the Island of Mysteries hopefully soon.
