Since the website of thesurvivor2299.com was found, it took us all for a ride, and then when it revealed it wasn’t Fallout 4, it did leave everyone with a lot of questions. Luckily over the weekend the creator of the site created the Reddit name of DCHoaxer and did a Ask Me Anything over his site. Minus the whining “How could you?” and “I hope you die” statements from fanboys across the webs, he did shed some insight on the site, and the story around it. Keep reading for a summary:
DCHoaxer has written a 56 page DLC script called “The Survivor” that would would fit in the New Vegas realm of the game. He wanted it to be a proof of concept of what a true fan of the Fallout world can do. He worked on it a long time this year and wanted to develop it, but could not find a development team so just kept the story. Luckily he will post the script on FanFiction.net soon enough, before Christmas (fingers crossed). He has even created a CGI trailer for his story, hopefully he will release it as well! He is still willing to develop the DLC as well. He did give an e-mail address (not sure if it’s fake or not) to contact him about working on it. I will not post it here, you’ll have to go to Reddit for that. He will release the trailer on his site in the near future, but he wants things to cool off for a bit first.
Why you ask? He created the site because “Some men just want to watch the world burn.” But he “wanted to force Bethesda to reveal something during VGX/ on 12/11, and bring /r/Fallout community together (for at least 3 weeks) Unfortunately, this plan Failed.”
He went big with this, he was the one that registered the trademark. He has some servers worldwide and someone discovered the site off of his Polish server before he was ready. He spent approximately $900 on his site along with the time to produce the content. The plot was already written from his story so it was just a few hours ciphering and coding the clues. He wanted to do some more things on the site like swap the IPs so it looked like it was coming from Bethesda. The plan failed when the site was discovered too early for him. The website is also more elaborate that we make it out the be, apparently there are 87 sub pages still yet to be found.
He loved what came out of the community and to see everyone engaged, he also resisted fixing the errors that were found in translations that were given. He didn’t go much into it because he didn’t want to spoil the story. He has also received death threats over this (14 at the time answered the question) so those die hard fan boys are still being crazy.
He had nothing to do with any of the other sites that played off of his. Or the radio signals in Boston that someone else did during the sites hype.
Bethesda did contact him on the day the site concluded early. He will not say what they talked about but it did spook him (while being drunk) and that is why the site ended like it did with the rickroll of the tunnel snakes. He was going to release the trailer, but got spooked when Pete Hines officially tweeted that the site was a fake. His biggest regret is that he gave up on the site and ended it with that clip.
He describes himself as a selfish bastards with a lot of money, but personally I think he’s a genius. He does seem somewhat remorseful on what he has done calling himself an asshole, but if you think about it, he rallied the troops of Fallout which hasn’t been done in a few years. Will this push Bethesda hand? Who knows, but hopefully.
