Supergiant Games, the development studio for Bastion and Transistor, has just revealed their newest game in development, and it looks pretty awesome. The game, titled Pyre, is a party-based role-playing game following you, the protagonist, leading a group of exiles through an ancient competition to prove your worthiness and end your exile for good. For the full announcement from Supergiant themselves click here, but I’ll do my best to summarize the biggest points here. Also, check out the full announcement trailer below:

The game’s story picks up with you being revived form the brink of death by several masked wanderers. With their help, you seek to learn the truth about the Rites, a secret competition in the Downside where exiles can prove their worthiness and return to their homes, absolved of their previous transgressions. Your actions in the game will affect the characters surrounding you in Pyre, and may determine who returns to normal life, and who must remain an exile forever.

Supergiant promises a blend of decision-making and fast, action-packed gameplay. From what we can see from the trailer, it seems that the game’s combat takes place mostly in real time. In a response on Twitter, Supergiant confirmed this stating that “it’s real time [combat]. Involves coordinating with multiple characters.” We don’t currently know much about how the decisions in the game will be handled, but I expect we’ll learn more about that soon, possibly at PAX East this week.

Although Pyre won’t be released until sometime in 2017 on PlayStation 4 and Steam, it will be available to the public at PAX East this week. If you’re heading to PAX east, first check out TechRaptor’s PAX East 2016 Beginner’s Guide. Then, if you want to check out Pyre for yourself, visit Supergiant Games at booth #8212.

What do you think of Pyre so far? Did the trailer successfully intrigue you, or not so much? Let us know down in the comment section below.

Just because I write about video games doesn't mean I'm very good at them. Unless it's Smash Bros. I'll wreck you in Smash Bros. I am also currently obsessed with Overwatch, so I'll wreck you in that too with Mercy.
