According to USGamer all of the building tools and options in Super Mario Maker 2 will be available from the start of the game and do not need to be unlocked. This stands in stark contrast to the first game in the series, which had the player complete challenges and premade levels in order to gain access to various tools to create their own levels. This means that even the game’s new options, which include the ability to create slopes, trailing blocks, and use a new Super Mario 3D World style will be there front and center as soon as you turn on the game. This does mean that it will be more possible to get yourself lost when building at the beginning, but it will also avoid players making maps that are designed for nothing but progressing to more objects.
In other Super Mario Maker 2 news, it has come to light that the game’s previously announced multiplayer mode will not allow players to team up with their friends via Switch online play. This means that online multiplayer will be limited to random matchmaking, and playing with specific players to local wifi and using multiple controllers on a single console. According to Nintendo World Report, Nintendo’s justification for this feature is that if players could team up with friends across the internet, it could compromise the game’s ranked play and the sanctity of leaderboards.
A variety of new feature, including a new story mode, multiplayer and ranked play were previously announced as being included in Super Mario Maker 2 via a Nintendo Direct on May 15th focused exclusively on the game.
