Nintendo announced during its January 14 Nintendo Direct that several Wii titles would be making their way to the Wii U eShop.

Among these titles, Super Mario Galaxy 2 and the Metroid Prime Trilogy will be available for purchase.

During the "spring focused" Nintendo Direct Wednesday morning, Nintendo revealed several Wii titles would be released on Nintendo's eShop. Fans who purchase these games within their first week can buy these games for half the price.

Super Mario Galaxy 2 is out January 15th. Punch Out!! will make its release on January 22nd in North America, while Europe will get Donkey Kong Country Returns. Finally, the Metroid Prime Trilogy will arrive January 29th. All games will release for €19.99/£17.99/$19.99, but on their debut week will be half off. Nintendo plans to release other popular Wii titles as the year progresses including Kirby's Adventure Wii and Pandora's Tower.

Company President Satoru Iwata noted the games' ability to launch directly from the Wii U menu screen. Previously, Wii titles needed to be launched through a special menu designed for Wii software. Mr. Iwata also noted that because Nintendo is capable of putting Wii software on the Wii U, several titles that could previously be played with a classic controller now work with the Wii U gamepad.

Super Mario Galaxy 2 originally released on May 23, 2010, in North America and May 27, 2010, in Japan for the Nintendo Wii. Critics gave the game high praise for its innovation, creativity, and charming gameplay. PunchOut!! released in May 2009 and also found a welcome reception by critics and fans of the series. The Metroid Prime Trilogy released in August 2009 and , like all three games it encompassed, received favorable scores for its engrossing soundtrack and precise controls.

During the Wednesday morning Direct, Nintendo also announced a new Fire Emblem for 3DS with a distinct feudal era style, North American and European release dates of the New Nintendo 3DS, and the news that North America would only be receiving the XL version. A fourth wave of amiibo figurines will arrive later this year for purchase (assuming fans can beat scalpers to the stores). An additional set of amiibo made to work with Mario Party 10 features Mario, Luigi, Yoshi, Peach, Bowser, and Toad. The Toad amiibo will also work with Captain Toad Treasure Tracker. Amiibo can also unlock Fire Emblem characters in the upcoming Codename: S.T.E.A.M.

What are your thoughts? Are you willing to purchase these titles all over again? Or do you only see the value of them for someone who hasn't played them? Is this something that should have been on the Wii U from the beginning? Sound off in the comments below and let your voice be heard!
