Super Mario Bros Movie Case

The Super Mario Bros. movie will be receiving a special Steelbook Blu-Ray Release early next year as reported by Nintendo Life.

If you've never seen the movie (or simply repressed the memory), Super Mario Bros. tells the tale of the titular brothers with a cinematic universe that can charitably be described as not terribly accurate to the games. Despite making only half of its budget back domestically on release, the movie is nonetheless liked by some (certain TechRaptor staff included) as a cult classic in the genre of video game movies.

For those who aren't collectors or film buffs, a Steelbook is a metal case made by the company of the same name. There are a number of products that have been enshrined in these metal cases including quite a few recent video games such as Far Cry 4Tower of Guns, and No Man's Sky.

Aside from a shiny metal case, the Blu-Ray will include the documentary This Ain't No Video Game featuring brand-new interviews from people who worked on the movie as well as archival footage from actor Bob Hoskins (who portrayed Mario) and others. Other bonus content will include storyboards, a "Making Of" feature, and an Original Electronic Press Kit.

The release was spotted on UK-based retailer Zavvi as an exclusive to that store. While they are based in the United Kingdom, they do offer shipping to the United States. If for some reason you feel a pressing need to get your hands on a copy of this particular piece of gaming film history you can preorder it on their website now. The Super Mario Bros. Steelbook Blu-Ray releases on February 13, 2017.

What do you think of the Super Mario Bros. movie? Do you consider it a genuinely terrible movie or do you feel that it's become a cult classic? Do you ever try to get your hands on Steelbook releases of movies or games or is it not really your thing? Let us know in the comments below!
