Today the biannual streaming event that combines speed running video games and donating to a good cause will begin. Summer Games Done Quick gets together the top tier speed runners from around the world and in a week they will show off their skills to help raise money for Doctors Without Borders. This event is being organized by Speed Demos Archive with all money going directly to charity.

For those unfamiliar with speed running it is completing a game in as minimal time possible. The routes are mapped out and each of the speed runners have countless hours practicing their game and racing against the clock to get the best time possible. SGDQ takes that to a new level also adding in speed run races between two runners and also adding donation incentives where you can donate to get a speed runner to go for 100% or harder game play modes.

This event will start today at 12pm Eastern Time and continue until next Saturday on the 28th with over 150 hours of live speed runs 24 hours a day. The event will be streamed on GamesDoneQuick.com or via their Twitch Account and they also have a schedule that alters to fit your time zone so you can see when your favorite games are about to be run. Information on how to participate and on how to donate will be listed on their site when the event begins.

At Awesome Games Done Quick in January over $1 million was raised and with more games being played for SGDQ 2014 than ever before i'm sure all will be done to ensure they raise even more money. For those who have never seen or heard of AGDQ or SGDQ before they have a highlights reel from AGDQ. For anyone without 2 hours to watch the highlight reel here is a shorter video of Ocarina of Time being beaten by Cosmo in under 23 minutes.
