Some games get timely updates to fix bugs, add stuff, and balance things. Stronghold Legends is not one of those games. After having been on sale for 10 years the game has been updated to the Steam Edition with new content.

Stronghold Legends was originally released on October 13th, 2006 developed by Firefly Studios and published by 2K Games. It's the first, and only, major spin-off of the Stronghold series. Instead of following and recreating historical pieces, Stronghold Legends instead is much closer to a fantasy RTS with mythical units. In the game, you follow either King Arthur, Count Vlad Dracul, or Siegfried of Xanten. Each army has various unique units, like Siegfried's frost giants or Vlad's werewolves. Despite the interesting ideas, Stronghold Legends was not well reviewed upon release, including a 4.3 from Gamespot's review, and a 5.7 from IGN.

It seems Firefly is not being dissuaded, though, and has released a major update for the game. The new Steam Edition adds in support you'd expect to see in Steam games, like trading cards and achievements. The visuals have been updated, new bonus campaigns have been added, and new maps for the multiplayer. Speaking of multiplayer, the game now has multiplayer serves again, running off of Steamworks instead of the now-defunct Gamespy. Finally, Steam Workshop support has been added, something useful considering the game has a map editor included with it.

This isn't the first time Firefly has made a Steam Edition for one of their older games. Last year they released a Steam Edition of their 2003 sci-fi management sim Space Colony. Earlier this year Firefly released Wonky Tower, their first iOS/Android game and their first non-Stronghold game since 2006.

Stronghold Legends: Steam Edition is available on Steam right now on sale at 15% off for $12.74, or as a free update to anyone who already owned Stronghold Legends.
