Capcom has stated that they will be supporting Street Fighter V until "2020 or so" as reported by Gamespot.

The statement was made in an interview with Famitsu (which was translated by Event Hubs) by Street Fighter V Executive Producer Yoshinori Ono. The response was in reply to a question about the development schedule of the game; he stated that they have enough content planned that they'll be working on the title for the next 3-4 years. This statement was reinforced by Producer Tomoaki Ayano who added, "we're working on [Street Fighter V] while planning ahead on the best way to develop it further."

Famitsu asked about the possibility of Capcom releasing any other fighting games in the meantime. Ayano deferred the question to his superior Ono who stated that, essentially, they are focusing on growing Street Fighter V as both a game and an e-sports title right now. Citing a higher number of tournament entrants compared to its predecessor Street Fighter IV, Ono stated that he would like to see even bigger growth in the coming years.

Mainly, Executive Producer Yoshinori Ono stated that he believes that Street Fighter V's tournament scene is important to its continued sales. More people participating in tournaments means that it's likely more people will watch those tournaments, and Ono hopes that that will translate into greater sales for the game.

Capcom recently banned the stage "Skies of Honor" from their Capcom Cup tournament following complaints about its distracting background design. If you're looking to pick up the game for PC, you can grab it on Steam right now at a 50% discount. It's also available for under $25 on Amazon (Affiliate) for PlayStation 4.

What do you think about Capcom's plans to support Street Fighter V for approximately the next 3-4 years? Would you prefer that one of their biggest franchises had a faster turnover or do you think that the frequent release of new editions hurts the game's community? Let us know in the comments below!
