SteamWorld Dig, the action/adventure/robot miner life simulator game from Image & Form had the fans yearning for a sequel for a pretty long time. The game was supposed to come out this summer exclusively for Nintendo Switch but both of these statements have been changed by a blog post on the developer's website. The post delivers a good and a bad news to the players, as SteamWorld Dig 2 will be released a bit later than anticipated but, at the same time, will also be released on PlayStation 4 and Steam as well.

By the studio's words, a multi-platform release would have been unthinkable few years ago but thanks to a much bigger team they decided to go that way for SteamWorld Dig 2. Image % Form also spends a few words about the WiiU, 3DS, and Vita. Apparently, they decided to give up on the WiiU for good since it's been replaced by the Switch and so they will not be making WiiU games anymore. They decided to not talk right now about portable versions of SteamWorld Dig 2 but the matter is apparently not entirely off the table. No mention about a possible Xbox One version in the post but in the comments Brjann Sigurgeirsson says that they'll have more to say about the Microsoft console in the future.

About the delay, the studio states that the game is pretty much done but they decided to take a couple more months to work out the little things and polish the product to the quality the fans expect. They don't mention a release date aside from a late Summer/early Fall window. The game will come out on Switch first and on the other platforms a few days later. The final release date and the price tag will be revealed sometime after the summer vacations.
