Welcome to the State of the Game! In this post, we'll be taking a look at some stats for all the games released on Steam between the 30th of October and the 5th of November this year. Looking at the top level stats you'd be forgiven for thinking this was a week without a big release as they're much closer to the down weeks we've seen over the past couple months. However, we did have Call of Duty: World War II release so it begs the question: why does this week not live up to the last month or so with similar AAA releases? Read on to find out!

Call of Duty: World War II did manage to take out the top spot although not by much. Part of this is due to it releasing later in the week meaning that its numbers didn't have as much time as others to gather steam. The first full week numbers are closer to 7,000 average concurrent users by comparison. Additionally the Call of Duty series, whilst it got its start on the PC, now has the vast majority of its players on the consoles. Typically around 45% of the players are on each of Xbox and PlayStation with the PC usually bringing in the remaining 10%. This is why with even what would look like lackluster numbers on Steam it can still pull in substantial cash in its opening weekend.

Spintires: Mudrunner, the updated and enhanced version of the original Spintires, also made its debut this week. You'd expect a release like this to cannibalize the predecessor's player base but that's not the case at all here. Instead, the original Spintires saw an average drop of about 10% in average players whilst Mudrunner was able to generate about the same number of players on its own. What this means is that the developer has essentially doubled the number of people playing the Spintires games with this release, incredible!

What do you think of the State of the Game in this time period? Any surprises? Share your thoughts in the comments below!
