This week in State of the Game we'll be taking a look at some data for all the games released on Steam between the 10th and 16th of July this year. Compared to last week, which was something of an anomaly thanks to Unturned exiting Early Access, the top level stats have returned back to the current trend. The middle of the year is always something of a quiet time for bigger releases and this week is no exception. It is worth mentioning that the number of games released on Steam this week is on the high end with a whopping 171 titles released. The average is around 130 or so, for comparison.

Ultimate General: American Civil War takes out this week's top spot due to the total number of hours played which was significantly above that of its closest competitor. The game began its closed beta in September and graduated to Early Access in late November last year. That time appears to have been well spent as is stats have steadily improved since it went 1.0, with its average concurrent player count up around 50% as of writing. During this time they even updated the predecessor, Ultimate General: Gettysburg which also appears to have had a positive reception with their community.

Taking a look at the trending section most of the top 5 are as you'd expect however Duelyst managed to just sneak in with its fourth content update Unearthed Prophecy. For free to play games content is always king and releasing a new set of cards in a trading card game is a guaranteed way of bringing players back into the fold. The bump does appear to be somewhat short lived however with the stats quickly returning to their pre-release numbers.

What do you think of this week's steam charts? Anything in it surprise you? Share your thoughts in the comments below!
