Welcome to this week's State of the Game! Today we'll be covering the first full week of December and much like last week we can see things slowing down for the holiday period. Stats for total games released, average players in this week's games and the number of hours spent in those games are down across the board. However, it does seem that most games bought this week did get played with the average unplayed stat for this week being the lowest seen in some time.

Interestingly this week's overall top game, Shadow Tactics: Blades of the Shogun, isn't the top game in the USA (that spot goes to Yu-Gi-Oh! Legacy of the Duelist). This is notable because the largest portion of the Steam user base, some 30% or so, is in the USA. So most of the time the top game in the USA will be the top game globally but this time around it isn't the case. Indeed, the top game in each country is quite varied which is indicative of a lack of big or notable releases.

In terms of games that are trending this week Dungeon Souls stands out due to its rather low discount percentage of only 15% that managed to bring in an impressive 6x increase to their player base. Digging a little however reveals that Dungeon Souls also left Early Access that week and with it came a lot of new features, most notable of which was local co-op. Long term Early Access games tend to see a bump like this when they go to full release and it would appear Dungeon Souls is no exception to this.

The slowdown trend is likely to continue over the coming weeks as we start to look towards the holiday season starting in earnest. It will be interesting to see how Steam's yearly Winter Sales affects things as there will be numerous new titles vying for the top trending spot.
