This week's State of the Game will be covering the games released on Steam between the 3rd and 9th of July this year. The Steam Summer Sale was winding down and so this started to give other titles a chance to shine. However, this week's stats are wholly dominated by a single release, one that I'm sure many gamers have been anticipating for some time. As we can see the main top level stats such as players in game, average hours played, and average completion are all up, all of which is due to Unturned.

Unturned initially started out life as a web based browser game but entered Early Access through Steam's Greenlight program in mid-2014. Since then it's become a staple for many gamers, often finding itself among the top 20 by concurrent players. Exiting Early Access hasn't put a damper on those numbers at all as Unturned has continued to maintain its strong player base past its new release date. Considering the strong competition it's now facing in the form of PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds this is all the more impressive.

With this week still covering some of the Steam Summer Sale, the trending section is once again quite a mix. For The King's increase in players thanks to its localization update shows that while it might be a lot of effort to go through for an indie developer, the benefits are certainly worth it. Grand Pigeon's Duty makes an appearance for seemingly no reason at all, at least none that this writer can discern. Whilst it was on sale that began long before this week's reporting period and the player increase only began around the 6th of July. None of the other usual suspects (bundles, updates, big name streamer's playing it) seem to apply here either so its appearance is truly baffling.
