In the wake of Stardew Valley being approved for release on the Nintendo Switch, creator Eric Barone has confirmed via his game’s website that it will be available for purchase on Oct. 5 at $14.99. The port is being handled by Sickhead Games and published by Chucklefish Games. The Switch will be the first console to support the new multiplayer mode in early 2018 through a patch after it’s tested through a beta on Steam later this year.

Stardew Valley was announced for the Switch during a Nindies conference earlier this year, which came to the PS4 and Xbox One in late 2016. A Wii U version was planned to release in late 2016 as well but was canceled due to the Switch’s greater capabilities and current popularity.

As for the upcoming multiplayer mode, it’s an entirely new addition that wasn’t part of the original game, which resulted in over 15,000 lines of code being rewritten due to synchronizing multiple games at once. It’s cooperative online play only; local multiplayer, split-screen play, and PvP aren’t in the works. Two other players that take on the role of farmhands on your property. Essentially, they can do whatever the main player can, so coordination with tasks and responsibilities could bring about commendable synergy. However, the main player is in control of festivals, story decisions, and when to sleep. Marriage is even being worked in but will function differently than how players can marry NPCs.
