The Stardew Valley multiplayer beta (which was originally announced in August of this year) has been delayed until the first quarter of 2018 according to a news post on the game's official website.

Stardew Valley is a farming RPG that was originally designed by Eric "ConcernedApe" Barone as a solo project before he joined forces with Chucklefish Games to round out the game's features and bring it to other platforms. A spiritual successor of sorts to the Harvest Moon series, it had launched as a single-player title with plans for multiplayer at some point later on down the road. Multiplayer was detailed in early August of 2017 with the expectation that a beta would be out before the end of the year, but now it appears that the team working on the new feature needs a bit of extra time for polish and quality assurance.

Aside from the delay of the Stardew Valley multiplayer beta, ConcernedApe has been stated to be working on some additional content that will be released alongside the update. If you prefer to fly solo, worry not - the content will be making changes to the single-player side of the game as well. Chucklefish are playing it close to the chest, but they've released a screenshot of indoor fishing at a new location. ConcernedApe also tweeted a screenshot of a boat:

Whatever the new content might be, the two images shared thus far strongly suggest some kind of aquatic focus. In addition to the multiplayer patch in the works, the PlayStation Vita port will be available next year and it will feature Cross-Buy. This means that if you've already bought the game for PlayStation 4, you won't need to buy it for the PS Vita.

Rounding out the tidbits of news is a website redesign and additional language support. Language support for French, Italian, Korean, and Turkish will be coming to the game in 2018. If you don't yet own Stardew Valley, you can grab it on Steam for the PC, for the PlayStation 4, or for the Xbox One for $14.99 or your regional equivalent.

What do you think of the Stardew Valley multiplayer beta being delayed until Q1 2018? Would you rather have the beta earlier and have the kinks worked out in a later patch or do you think it's better to wait for all the kinks to be worked out? Let us know in the comments below!
