Star Wars The Old Republic Knights of the Fallen

Bioware announced today that the new expansion for the popular free to play MMO Star Wars: The Old Republic has just been launched. The expansion is called Knights of the Fallen Empire and will be free for anyone who has an active subscription (which will cost you $14,99 per month) to the game. This is the only way to gain access to the new content since the expansion isn't sold seperately. The game will feature a sort of living story (like the one in Guild Wars 2) where new chapters will become available to play over the coming weeks. The expansion will launch with 11 chapters available, with another 5 being released on a monthly basis starting in early 2016.

Players will once again be playing a personal story only this time it will be the same across all classes and cannot be played with a party. Choices you make as the story unfolds may have consequences for you later in the expansion. In addition to a completely new storyline, players will also be visiting new planets with new (and old) companions. You will be known as 'The Outlander', a survivor of the great galactic war and the story will take you to new planets in your desperate attempt to build alliances in their fight against Emperor Valkorion. Players who have an active subscription will also be able to get a free level 60 character so they can instantly jump into the new content.

Quick Take

I am pretty excited for this, actually. I was an avid player of this game when it first got released and I sometimes log back in to see the new stuff. I really liked the game's focus on a personal narrative and I'm more than happy to see that they went full-on with the story in this expansion. All of the announced features sound like music to my ears so I cannot wait to jump back into the fray.

I've been playing games since I was just barely able to walk so I might as well write about them.
