Star Wars Battlefront 2

We all knew an announcement for Star Wars Battlefront II was imminent, and now that moment is finally here. Yesterday saw the teaser trailer for the shooter set in a galaxy far, far away leak ahead of schedule, giving us a first (in-engine) look at the game.

The trailer is narrated by a soldier present in one of the many theaters of war in the Star Wars universe. This character may or may not end up in the game's singleplayer campaign, which was confirmed to be in the game by DICE and Electronic Arts a while ago. What follows are chaotic shots of a big dogfight in space, the Millenium Falcon being chased by some TIE Fighters in low orbit, an AT-AT stomping along as Stormtroopers run around it.

What's more: among the scenes from the original trilogy, the teaser also shows characters and units from the Clone Wars as well as newer characters from Star Wars: Episode VII - The Force Awakens like Ikora Rey and Kylo Ren as well as Darth Maul, one of the antagonists of Star Wars: Episode 1 - The Phantom Menace. Including all the eras will make fans of the franchise very happy as one of the major complaints levied against Star Wars Battlefront was its focus on the original trilogy over the other films in the franchise.

What the gameplay, game modes, and gameplay possibilities will be is anyone's guess at this point, but the teaser does divulge something else: heroes that are exclusive to players who pre-order the game.

Star Wars Battlefront 2 is scheduled to release at some point in the latter half of 2017. Star Wars Battlefront released in 2015 to coincide with the theatrical release of the seventh film in the franchise. While fans and critics agreed that the game's graphical fidelity was nothing less than impressive, many noted the lack of content and the lack of variety in gameplay ultimately made the game feel disappointing. The teaser trailer heavily implies that variety is definitely making its return to the franchise with Star Wars Battlefront II.

I've been playing games since I was just barely able to walk so I might as well write about them.
