Star Wars Battlefront

In a yesterday's community update, EA announced that Star Wars: Battlefront's Beta would be available to everyone who wishes to play it. Here's what we know about it thus far:

The Star Wars: Battlefront Beta will include both offline and online modes, which means players will have access to both co-op and split screen co-op, and will be playable on the Playstation 4, Xbox One, and via Origin for PC players. There is no pre-order requirement to participate, meaning that as long as you have one of the 3 systems, you'll be able to check it out!

Star Wars Battlefront Hoth If you're looking to check out the online multiplayer, testers will be able to play Walker Assault on Hoth, or the newly revealed Drop Zone on Sullust.

  • Walker Assault - This game mode features an intense 20-on-20 battle between the Rebels and the Empire, where to win, the Rebels must take down the AT-AT assault vehicle. To reduce the AT-AT's defenses, Rebel players will have to weaken it using Y-Wing Bombers, which are activated by activating Uplink Stations on the map. Once the defenses are down, the Rebels will have a few decisions to make - will you take down the walker with conventional weapons, defend the uplink stations, or will you be the hero to wrap a tow cable around its legs and trip it up? More details...
  • Drop Zone - Similar to "King the Hill", players in teams of 8 will fight for control of drop pods coming through the atmosphere onto the planet's surface. Players must reach the pods to perform a short claim process, and should they wait around to see it open, will receive a Power Pickup. The team that either captures 5 pods or has the majority after 10 minutes is up will win.  Should a pod constantly change possession, the "tie" will be broken by a new drop pod coming to the surface.  More Details...
These aren't all of the game modes announced, but it's certainly a good taste of what's to come. I plan on taking a more in-depth look at each game mode very soon, so stay tuned for those details!

Star Wars Battlefront Endor

If multiplayer isn't your thing, however, you'll have access to Survival Mode - which strands you on Tatooine by yourself, with a friend online, or split-screen on the couch! While the Beta only has the mode available on Tatooine, the final game will include it on all maps. The goal of this mission is to stay alive against 15 waves of Imperial forces, pitting you against Storm Troopers, AT-STs, and everything else the Empire can throw at you. You'll have to play smart against each wave, keeping an eye out for drop pods containing extra lives and powerups as you go, but if the Force is with you - you'll surely succeed.

EA knows that people are excited for the Star Wars: Battlefront Beta, which is likely why they've opened it up to everyone. While they haven't announced a release date for the start, there's promises in Community Update #4 that it will be soon. We'll make sure to keep you updated when the date is announced!

Personally, the announcement of new game modes, the wide-open beta, and ability to play solo has me incredibly excited. How about you, are you looking forward to checking out the beta?
