Following the conclusion of the Star Wars Battlefront 2 beta, the internet was in quite an uproar, and likely not in a way that EA had hoped for. As it turns out, the beta effectively gave people a chance to see how the loot crates will function in the full release and, in a bit of an unpleasant surprise for everyone, the loot from these loot crates have an impact on the gameplay. Needless to say, EA took notice of this feedback and responded in kind on their website.

To make a long story short, EA claims that there will be changes made to the game that you saw in the beta, including a number of balancing tweaks and new features to make it easier for people to play together as a team. The brunt of the post specifically addressed Star Wars Battlefront 2's loot crates and the contents within said crates, stating that "the complete system was not in the Beta and will continue to be tuned over time." The full list of intended "changes" are as follows:

  • There are many things you can earn in the game, including weapons, attachments, credits, Star Cards, Emotes, Outfits, and Victory Poses.
  • As a balance goal, we’re working towards having the most powerful items in the game only earnable via in-game achievements.
  • Crates will include a mix of Star Cards, Outfits, Emotes or Victory Poses.
  • Players earn crates by completing challenges and other gameplay milestones, or by purchasing them with in-game credits or Crystals, our premium currency.
  • If you get a duplicate Star Card in a crate, you will get crafting parts which you can then use to help upgrade the Star Card of your choice.
  • And lastly, you have to earn the right to be able to upgrade Star Cards and unlock most Weapons. You can only upgrade or unlock them if you have reached a high enough rank, which is determined by playing the game.

In addition, EA claims that they are listening to suggestions regarding a way to play Star Wars Battlefront 2 but without the inherent imbalance of the effects of Star Cards. As with all things, whether or not EA will remain true to their word during the final release is up for debate, but if we are to be fair, such things are relatively easy to adjust, so for all we know, these loot crate changes may have already been implemented in the final build of the game.
