Star Fox Zero, the next in the Star Fox series that has not seen a new release since 2006, was meant to release in November of this year. Today, Shigeru Miyamoto announced that Star Fox Zero would not be released until Q1 2016 (Jan-Mar).

In his message Miyamoto said that Star Fox Zero could be released in time for the holidays, but his message seems to say that he didn't feel like that would be enough time to get it in a state that would make him happy:

While we have already reached the stage where it would be technically possible to release the title in time for the year-end holiday season, we want to polish the game a bit more so that players will be able to more smoothly grasp the new style of play that we are proposing.

Specifically, Miyamoto mentioned that the development team wanted more time to work on the feeling of discovery players will have in the game, polishing level design, and perfecting the tone of the cutscenes.

He ended it by emphasizing the delay isn't all that long, only to Q1 2016.

TechRaptor actually had the opportunity to play Star Fox Zero at E3 2015. You can check out our impressions of the game here.

Quick Take

I would be remiss if I did not quote the same Miyamoto quote every other article out there probably will, "A delayed game is eventually good, a bad game is bad forever."

With that out of the way, what has been shown has not been, to me, all that impressive so far. Our experience with it at E3 mentioned how it didn't seem all that different than games before it, but of course we will all just have to wait and see until next year.

In any case, delaying a game within reason is almost always better than releasing it too early.
