Star Fox 64 is a classic game that rebooted the franchise, bringing Star Fox to a new generation of gamers and Nintendo fans a 3D adventure that one was one of the top-selling games of 1997 – second only to Mario Kart! With Star Fox Zero coming to the the Wii U April 21st, Nintendo is now re-releasing Star Fox 64 on the console for fans to play.
While this isn’t the first time that Star Fox 64 has been re-released, as it was previously done for the Nintendo 3DS in 2011, this version will allow Star Fox fans to once again enjoy the adventure sitting in front of their TV’s! The Star Fox series has been pretty quiet, with Star Fox: Assault (Gamecube) being the last console entry of the series in 2005, and Star Fox Command for the Nintendo DS being released in 2006. The re-release of Star Fox 64 for the WiiU shows that Nintendo wants to remind fans that Fox McCloud isn’t only to be found in Super Smash Brothers or on store shelves as an Amiibo!
The game will be made available for the WiiU Virtual Console starting on March 24th in Europe, and is going to be 50% off until Star Fox Zero releases on April 21st! At this time, it is unclear as to whether or not other territories will be included – but if you’ve never played the game before, this is definitely a great time to check it out!
I’m super happy about this one, and I’ve been hoping and waiting for an announcement like this, because it will be nice to get my hands on Star Fox 64 again after all these years without an N64! Star Fox Zero is one of my most anticipated games for the year after what we saw last year, and it’s going to be really great to team up with Fox and Friends once again before checking out the new title for the WiiU!
