Ahead of its E3 showcase, Square Enix pushed out a brief teaser for Outriders, a new sci-fi game from the studio. The teaser reveals remarkably little, but a little more information can be gleaned from its associated Twitter account. Interestingly enough, the account for Outriders was created almost two years ago but only started tweeting a fake captain's log just last month. There's no information about platforms or anything else at this time, with more info promised to come during Square Enix's press conference on June 10th.

From what we can tell from the Twitter feed, Outriders concerns a group of humans aboard the S.M. Flores, as it leaves the solar system in search of a new home for humanity. Captain Simon Archan leads the Flores towards Enoch, "which may well be humanity's last hope and salvation." The captain's log goes on to mention a "catastrophic situation on Earth," before hinting towards some sort of tension between the Army and the Outriders on board. Following this log, a large series of automated messages log some cryogenic pod failures, slight hull damage to the ship, and failed attempts to contact Earth. My quick math suggests it's been almost 100 years between when Captain Archan enters the sleeping pod, and when they wake up again.

Still, when Archan wakes up, everything appears to be normal, which would be a surprise for many games set aboard a ship in deep space. The captain's final log suggests that they land on Enoch and begin to dismantle the ship in order to create their new home. Whatever sort of game Outriders might be is anyone's guess. Still, Square Enix has some surprising properties and ideas in their history, so we'll see just what Outriders is on June 10th, where it will join titles like Marvel's Avengers at their E3 press conference.

What do you think of the teasers for Outriders? Is it a survival game? A horror game set on an alien world? Let us know in the comments below!
