It's not only a little over a month until fans of Sony's purple dragon will be able to return to memorable locations like the Artisan's world or the Summer Forest in Spyro Reignited Trilogy. As both the Twitter account and the official page keep getting updated fans have been trying to see as much as they can in anticipation, most recently with the reveal of the official box art.

The first of the changes that were noticed on the sites preorder page was the new box art. In comparison to the previous one shown off Spyro now takes even more of a focus on the cover as his face has now been zoomed in on. In the background is a great representation of the three games in the trilogy showing not only a level from each game but their respective final bosses; Gnasty Gnorc, The Sorceress, and Ripto from left to right. As well as the box arts overeagerness to let you know that Spyro Reignited Trilogy contains three games fans also spotted that the game will require content to be downloaded.

After some initial digging, it was found later on in the preorder page that what will require downloading is the last two games of the trilogy; Ripto's Rage (Non-American fans will remember that one as Gateway to Glimmer) and Year of the Dragon. This discovery was immediately met with backlash from the community questioning the purpose of a physical release if 2/3 of the content would be a download. At this time there isn't word on how the download for these two games will function, whether it would be a one-time use code included in the box (potentially to discourage resale) or if it will act like a patch for the game where it will download the additional games on any system. When speaking with Activision Gameinformer received the following statement:

"The global launch date of Spyro Reignited Trilogy is Sept. 21, and we’re excited for fans to play all three reignited games on that day, As with most games today, downloading an update after purchase is quite common. The language on packaging and on the web is to let players know the requirements for Spyro Reignited Trilogy."
This statement then added a further question to the wording as to whether the language of the site, when it says "Games 2 and 3 require download via internet" if it means the whole games will be downloaded, if it's a day one patch, or if part of the games are on disc with more needing download. It's worth noting that in the past Activision has previously released games like Tony Hawk Pro Skater 5 with a portion of the game on disk and the rest requiring download

One final piece of Spyro news released yesterday from the official Twitter account was the new look for Moneybags the Bear. First appearing in Spyro 2 Moneybags will offer Spyro a variety of crucial services that will be required to progress through the game, from lowering bridges to teaching you new abilities like swimming and climbing.

We have reached out to Toys for Bob for further clarification on whether the second and third game are included in the disc, what their decision-making process was if they aren't included, and how the download will work.

What do you think of Spyro Reignited Trilogy requiring a download for games 2 and 3? Are you looking forward to getting back all your gems from Moneybags once again? If the games truly aren't on the physical disc is that a deal breaker for you?
