Marvel's Spider-Man is now the fastest-selling PS4 exclusive. Insomniac's web-slinging adventure sold 3.3 million copies in just 3 days, beating out April's God of War. Kratos' critically acclaimed reboot sold 3.1 million in that time and became the fastest-selling exclusive, until now.

The game also received one million preorders, which breaks another record for Sony. Sony is including copies sold as part of the limited edition PS4 Pro bundle, which retailed at $399.99. They did not reveal how many of these bundles were sold, however.

Check out our review of the Marvel's Spider-Man here.

USAToday estimates that with a retail price of $59.99 the 3.3 million copies translates to roughly $198 million. This blows the $117 million opening weekend box office of the latest solo Spider-Man film, Spider-Man: Homecoming out of the water.

"Our expectations are always set at the highest levels," said Stephen Turvey,  PlayStation's global senior vice president of sales and head of North America business operations. Although the web-slinger has had a shaky history with video games in the past, Turvey credits developer Insomniac Games and Marvel with "bringing Spider-Man back to gaming in a way that you want to experience it."

"It's met and exceeded all expectations. I think the company and the campus and our fans are super proud of it."

To put into perspective just how much of a comeback this is for our friendly neighborhood Spider, 2014's The Amazing Spider-Man 2 was the last Spider-Man to hit consoles and it received a Metacritic score of 49 out of 100.

Sony has announced the game's post-launch content plans. Three pieces of DLC will drop before the end of the year. The first piece titled The City That Never Sleeps centers around Black Cat's thieving escapades and releases in October. The following DLC will launch in November and December respectively, but no details have yet been released. You can purchase each piece of content for $9.99, or for $24.99 as a bundle.
