It's almost October and you know what that means. It means drinking. Lots of drinking. Thankfully, if you're playing SpellForce 3: Soul Harvest, you'll have some of that drinking done for you, as the game as just added some free Oktoberfest DLC.

So how do you add Oktoberfest to your fantasy RTS? Through hand-waving justification, of course. The context, which is helpfully provided on the DLC's Steam page, is that Queen Ayelith has head of a distant land called Bavaria that is practicing a "barbaric ceremony" known as Oktoberfest. Since Oktoberfest may be against all that is pure and modest, she orders you to march to Bavaria and put an end to the festival. If you could grab a couple barrels of whatever they're drinking along the way as well, that'd be great. It's for research purposes. Of course. Do you really need any more of an explanation?

Besides this goofy quest, the DLC adds in some new content. There's a new skirmish map named "Battle for Theresa's Meadow", where you'll travel to Bavaria to fight over the Oktoberfest grounds. There's also a new playable human hero named Alois Bierdimpfe. He's a brewmaster with some alcohol-based skill trees, which is particularly great if you need a drink in the middle of combat or something. The outpost advisor and human flag-bearer also both have a new set of "Bavarian-based" voice overs, which you can even bring into the main campaign if you want to flavor it up a bit. Finally there's some new music tracks, which are all based on Oktoberfest, naturally.

SpellForce 3: Soul Harvest is currently available on PC. The Oktoberfest DLC is free and available now.
