Space Haven seeks to do what many games have failed at: make a fun spaceship colony sim. Many developers have attempted this feat and Bugbyte Ltd. is keen on taking up the challenge with the announcement of this game.

In Space Haven, humanity has had to flee Earth after some kind of unspecified disaster. Your ship is the only thing keeping you and your crew alive. You won't just command the ship and its crew—you'll actually get to build it tile by tile. Take a look at the Announcement Trailer to see some early gameplay footage:

Your ship has to be built one tile at a time, although it thankfully doesn't have to conform to a specific shape or anything like that. Feel free to get as wacky as you want! You do, however, want to be mindful of how the gases move around inside the ship. There's also the constant risk of some kind of catastrophe like the crew having to fight a battle somewhere on the ship. While an aerodynamic design isn't required, sensible design surely is.

Aside from the ship, you'll also have to manage the crew. Crew members all have their own needs, moods, and relationships. You'll have to do your best to take care of them before everything goes to hell in a handbasket.

There will also be a measure of exploration to undertake in the game. Keeping your guys and girls alive is challenging enough, but fending off a wave of alien bugs on a derelict ship brings a whole new level of danger. You might find some useful technology or you could uncover a cryo-pod with a survivor still inside! Either way, the procedurally-generated galaxy will make for a different challenge every time.

Space Haven is coming to Kickstarter in February or March of 2019; backers will be able to get early access to the game two weeks after the crowdfunding campaign concludes. For now, you can add the game to your wishlist on Steam. You can also check out the game's official website.
