To close today's State of Play broadcast, Sony featured a new trailer for the upcoming Final Fantasy VII Remake. The trailer lasts a little over a minute, but it shows off a mix of what looks to be gameplay and cutscenes. Of course, all the footage comes from a game still in development, so everything is subject to change.

In the trailer, we see some classic moments rendered in modern-day graphics. Scenes like Aerith giving Cloud a flower are interlaced with shots of the combat. We even get a quick look at Cloud's iconic Cross Slash. The gameplay doesn't look like Final Fantasy VII originally did on the PlayStation. Instead, the pulled back third-person camera and user interface looks similar to the real-time combat antics of Final Fantasy XV.

The developers of the original game reunited for Final Fantasy VII Remake. We didn't get a release window with today's trailer, but expect more information in June. While Sony isn't showing up to E3 this year, Square Enix definitely will. We'll likely see more about this remake at some point during E3 given the commitment to June information.

The remake of this classic JRPG was revealed back at E3 2015, during Sony's press conference. Since then, information has been scarce. We've seen glimpses of the real-time combat before, and Square Enix revealed that multiple episodes of Final Fantasy VII Remake would be coming, instead of one major release.

Final Fantasy VII Remake doesn't have a release date yet, but it's slated for the PS4.

In other State of Play news, Sony announced a release date for the remake of MediEvil. Additionally, a release date for the previously revealed Monster Hunter: World expansion has been set.
