PlayStation Plus League

Ahead of Sony's Paris Games Week conference a French website has shown up revealing Sony's plans for an eSports platform called PlayStation Plus League. Project CARS also has a mention of PlayStation Plus League on their website, mentioning prize pools for top players in two different divisions.

Besides Project CARS the site mentions Mortal Kombat X, FIFA 16, Battlefield Hardline, Ultra Street Fighter 4, Rocket League, Driveclub,  and Trials Fusion qualifying rounds will start tomorrow and run until Nov. 1. The site doesn't explain if the debut of the PlayStation Plus League will be Europe only or not so you'll have to wait until an official announcement to see if that is the case.

The PlayStation Plus League will be offering real money payouts, but we don't know how high those payouts will be as of yet. The Project CARS prize pools are €150 for the Gold Division and €50 for the Silver Division. There are also Championships mentioned on the site that will take place throughout the year through different seasons and divisions for different games depending on how they are set up.

For the full reveal where Sony will explain in much more detail you'll have to tune into the Sony conference at Paris Games Week which starts at 1 p.m. ET right here:

Quick Take

This looks to be a really interesting addition to PlayStation Plus and a great way to grow the eSports scene. There is a lot we don't know about how PlayStation Plus League will work, but just from what we know now it looks like it could be an awesome way to get people who might otherwise have no interest in eSports to give it a look. The process for signing up as outlined on the Project CARS site looks simple which makes it easy for anyone to participate if they feel like it. Keeping the barriers to entry low will hopefully mean lots of people will participate, but only time will tell how well PlayStation Plus League is received. I'd love to see this same type of thing done on the Xbox One, and maybe if PlayStation Plus League is successful Microsoft will think about it.

Will you the PlayStation Plus League? What are some concerns or questions you have about how it will all work?
