During Sony's State of Play Hello Game showed off the trailer for No Man's Sky VR. This free update for the original game will allow players to play the game in VR.

The trailer during the show had a few of the game's elements running in VR. We got to see characters driving, swimming, flying, and building bases as a team. There's also combat shown, with one player shooting their way through an asteroid so they could fly into it.

In a post on the PlayStation Blog after the show, a few more details were given. Sean Murry said that the VR update falls under the No Man's Sky: Beyond update, which will also be adding in a revamped multiplayer component. Some of the new control changes made for VR were talked about. For example, when flying you now actually have to have your hands on the sticks, using them to control your aircraft. To change functions on your multitool you'll have to actually play with its touchscreen using a free hand. Sean also says that VR players can still join the multiplayer with either other VR players or non-VR players. He also confirmed the update will be completely free for all current owners of the game.

In a Steam post on the topic, Murray also announced that VR will be available using Steam VR and will release simultaneously on both platforms. All content that has been released for the game or that will be released for the game will be experienceable in Virtual Reality.

In addition to this, Sean said that the Beyond update has a third major feature set in the work, but did not give any more details on it than that.

No Man's Sky can be purchased right now. The VR update will come sometime in the summer as part of the No Man's Sky: Beyond update.
