Day 2 of Sony's pre E3 2018 celebration shined a light on Days Gone, the open-world post-apocalyptic game set in a zombie holocaust.

The new trailer right off the bat showed off the games release date, February 22nd, 2019.  The rest of it was a bumper trailer showcasing a ton of mayhem and destruction, including world hazards such as infected wildlife - wolves, ravens, and cougars in particular - in conjunction with humans and the zombie-like "freakers."

Days Gone is set in an open world in the Pacific Northwest. The player will star as Deacon St. John, a former biker outlaw who is now trying to survive the wild wilderness filled with the freakers and vicious wildlife. The main claim to fame for the game so far has been the freakers themselves, who swarm in a massive wave similar to the movie World War Z.

The official PlayStation blog reveals more information about the game world, including some of the human faction outside of the marauders known as the cult of R.I.P, or the Rippers. The Rippers dress similar to the freakers and kill anyone who is not a Ripper, even refusing to kill freakers as they swarm their own camps, which can make for a strange encounter if a horde ever reaches Ripper territory.

Three new characters are also introduced in the trailer. The first is William "Boozer" Gray, an ex-gang member and close friend of Deacon. Alkai Turner is an arms dealer shown at the survivor encampment known as Hotsprings, while Ada Tucker is a former prison matron who now leads the Hotsprings Camp. The three will be voiced by the talented Jim Pirri, Jonathan Joss, and DeeDee Rescher, respectively.

Days Gone has been shown at E3 for the past two years, although this is the first time it has been relegated to Sony's Pre-Show presentation. The game has been in development for quite some time now, but word is that the delay was purely a business decision and that the team has hit all the milestones for development. Developer Bend Studio is planning on showing more of Days Gone at E3 proper this year as well, so who knows what else is in store for the game.

Days Gone is scheduled to release for the PlayStation 4 on February 22nd, 2019.
