A particular surprise was in store for viewers of Sony's E3 2018 conference: Resident Evil 2 Remake.

The video began with a creature seemingly running along the ground. It became evident that the creature was a mouse. In the background, we heard what sounded like a police officer and an unknown man fighting in a storeroom. Eventually, a shelf got knocked over as the struggle intensified and the mouse was killed. The camera then shifted to the officer having a piece of his neck torn out before the man who bit the officer was shot by Leon Kennedy. It was then made quite clear that this was Resident Evil 2. After Leon fired his shot, we saw some other familiar characters like Claire Redfield alongside the scenery of Raccoon City. The Resident Evil 2 remake was first announced nearly three years ago. At the time, the game was still very early in its development and we haven't heard much from the developers since then until today's reveal. Rumors of the game making its debut at this year's E3 have been popping up online as late as yesterdayResident Evil has been remade and ported many times over, and now we'll get to see the second canonical game in the series remade for modern systems in just a few short months.

A post over on the PlayStation Blog has a few more details about the remake. The game will be utilizing the same engine used for Resident Evil 7. If you're a veteran of the series, much of the game and its puzzles will look familiar to you. That's not to say that it will be a 1:1 remake - there are going to be new areas and new surprises for even the most seasoned players to enjoy. The blog post goes into a lot of history of the game, so please do go and read it if you want to learn a bit more about a classic game.

The video for Resident Evil 2 Remake concluded with a release date: January 25, 2019. The game will be releasing with updated controls, an over-the-shoulder camera mode, and other improvements for the PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One for $59.99 or your regional equivalent.
