SANIC

This is an actual thing happening in the year of the Lord 2017.

Today on Twitter, the official Sonic the Hedgehog Twitter account announced what will probably be the most important news of the century. You can now download a Sanic t-shirt for your custom character to wear in Sonic Forces. This announcement also included "Yes, it's real", just in case you had a bit of a doubt that this may have been fake news.

Sonic the Hedgehog's official Twitter account has always been a place full of jokes, and it may have seemed like this was another. After all, Sonic Horses, the lootbox filled sequel to Sonic Forces wasn't real. Neither was the official Sonic Forces shoe controller that would cost $399. However, it seems you really can download and place a Sanic shirt on your custom character. For free even.

Sonic Forces came out on November 7th for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC. The game launched to middling reception and that includes our take on the game. Sonic Mania also came out this year on the same platforms to fantastic reviews, and we agreed with that consensus.

Quick Take

This is up there as one of the stranger news stories of the year. I'm not quite sure it's up to the level as that time a Night in the Woods character appeared in an ad for a Taylor Swift ticket-purchasing service, but it's close.

I'm still debating what I want to see Sonic do next. On one hand, it'd be great if Sonichu could make his official canon Sonic appearance. On the other hand, I'd love for President Barack Obama to finally acquire a Chaos Emerald. The meme mining possibilities are endless!

How do you feel about this? Going to toss a Sanic shirt on your Sonic character? Think they've gone too far? Is there a different meme you want to be included in Sonic Forces? Let us know in the comments!
