Promethium and Containment Protocol developer Xiotex has announced a new project. Universal Space Station Inc is a turn-based economy management sim in which players must deliver a sustainable solution to global starvation.
The game takes place amid a global population boom. Unfortunately, climate change has also reached crisis levels. The titular Universal Space Station Inc is a joint venture by humanity to solve these problems. To do so, you'll need to grow crops, recruit crew members, and maintain modules controlling vital things like oxygen and water. The trailer shows off the stylized aesthetic of the game, as well as some of its core gameplay concepts. Universal Space Station Inc's official Steam page describes it as a "sci-fi economy management resource simulator". It's a largely menu-driven game in which players must micromanage their station's resources while researching and developing new sources of food for humanity. In addition to resource management, players will also need to contend with political unrest and the uncertain nature of the financial markets.
Development of Universal Space Station Inc is being handled by Xiotex Studios. The studio is headed by industry vet Byron Atkinson-Jones. His previous projects include Football Manager, Oddworld: New'n'Tasty, and NHL. Universal Space Station Inc will be published by British studio Excalibur, which has previously published games like Jalopy, Tracks, and Shoppe Keep 2. Xiotex and Excalibur say Universal Space Station Inc will be available in "late 2019" as part of the Steam Early Access program. Atkinson-Jones and Xiotex will be holding a session to talk about the game at EGX Rezzed this Friday. If you're not going, don't worry - the session will be live streamed via Twitch too. It'll take place at 3 pm BST /7 am PDT.
