The MMO You Should Know: Skyforge

As of November 26th, the Allods Team and Obsidian Entertainment combo released a mini game for users who have registered with their site and/or closed beta.  This mini game, called Aelion’s Treasure, is a test of your luck and perseverance.  From November 26th through December 23st (according to their web site, but we all know its the 23th) this mini game can be played daily, and each day you receive 7 more attempts at collecting blue gems, or unearthing the coveted rainbow gem.  Watch out for the black gem, though, as that is essentially this games form of bankruptcy.  There are quite a few details to this mini game and how you can push your luck or risk it all, but why bother?  There are very real rewards for this mini game.

In their exact words:

Each week, leaderboard rankings will be determined by the 20 luck participants who’ve accumulated the most blue gems. Each of them is guaranteed to receive a closed beta invitation to Skyforge and the participant who placed first will receive a Sound Blaster EVO ZXR headset!

That’s not all.  If you are one of the lucky few to find an “exceedingly rare rainbow gem” while playing the game, you will be the proud new owner of an nVidia GeForce GTX 770 video card.  Even if you’re not necessarily interested in Skyforge or MMORPG’s, it’s worth giving it a shot just for a chance at this prize.  That’s not the only way to receive this video card, though.  Prizes are also available by spending the blue gems you uncover.  Spending seven blue gems will provide a treasure, and the prize for that treasure will be a GTX 770 as well.  Other prizes include more attempts for that week, guaranteed open beta access, and a special edition Skyforge souvenir set.

For years I have been a systems administrator, a husband, a father, a gamer, and now, to add to that list, a budding games journalist. My family always comes first, but a close second would have to be gaming. My favorite games tend to be RPG's, MMO style games, and MOBA's, but I'm no stranger to FPS and action games as well. My only hope is that my writings and opinions can help the gaming community and that I don't invoke the wrath or ire of gamers everywhere... because you scary gaming community!
